A Vickers industrial PC fitted with custom hardware and running bespoke software, had a major breakdown. The motherboard decoupling capacitors had degraded and started to leak, the operating system had become corrupt, the cooling system was jammed with dust and the motion control card had some damaged IO pins.
Fortunately we had performed a backup of the hard drive in an earlier encounter with this unit. The motherboard and ancillary cards were all fully refurbished, a new PSU fitted, new cooling fans and new filter media. We were then able to simulate the function of the robot on an external monitor and could see the software running as it should.
The industrial PC was taken back to site with an automation engineer to ensure safe startup and within 24 hours, the customer was fully automated palletising goods again.
